Abstract

The letters of meanings have received great attention from scholars of interpretation and grammarians. Since they occur frequently in the surahs of the Holy Qur’an, and because of the importance of these letters and the color of their connotations, this research addresses the letters of meanings in the use of grammarians and interpreters of the Holy Qur’an. Abu Hayyan was one of those who spoke extensively about the meanings of the letters of meanings, through his discussions and interpretations through his interpretation of Al-Bahr Al-Muhit, by presenting Some examples in which the discussion was mentioned and which have a preference according to Abu Hayyan, and an analysis of that disagreement and Abu Hayyan’s evidence in that regard, then expressing an opinion on this preference. The research followed the inductive and analytical method. This is through extrapolating the areas in which there is disagreement in the letters of the meanings, analyzing them, and arriving at a preference. One of the most prominent findings of the researchers is that Abu Hayyan is one of the most prominent scholars of language and interpretation who meant the letters of the meanings and the weighting between their meanings more than others, and that the ruling in the weighting between the meanings of the letters is the usage. And the context, and most of Abu Hayyan’s arguments are in their correct place.
