Abstract

The study aims to clarify the role of Quranic readings (Qirāʾāt) in enriching Arabic linguistic lexicons and to uncover their relationship with lexical items, through applied examples from the dictionary Al-Muḥīṭ fī al-Lugha by Al-Ṣāḥib ibn ʿAbbād. It further seeks to demonstrate the impact of these readings on rare and unfamiliar vocabulary (gharīb al-lugha), as well as their connection to dialectal variation and morphological derivation. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology through an introductory investigation into Al-Ṣāḥib ibn ʿAbbād, his dictionary, its characteristics, and its position within the tradition of Arabic lexicography. In addition, an applied analytical approach is employed to examine the influence of Quranic readings on rare lexical items through selected examples. The study concludes that Quranic readings constitute an essential and authentic source for enriching Arabic lexicons, as they help uncover new meanings and clarify obscure or unfamiliar terms. It also reveals the strong connection between the diversity of Quranic readings and the development of individual lexical items.
