Abstract

Tarannum learning practices play an important role in developing Qur'anic recitation skills among qari and qariah. Although tarannum studies have attracted increasing public interest, research examining professional tarannum learning practices within mosque-based educational settings remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyse professional tarannum learning practices at Masjid Asy-Syakirin KLCC. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving 15 informants, with data collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify patterns in learning practices and informants' experiences. The findings identified 18 professional tarannum learning practices categorised into five main dimensions: teacher expertise, learning interactions, talaqqi and musyafahah, professional training, and the development of professionalism. Additionally, 15 perceived learning outcomes were identified across four dimensions: voice and melody proficiency, recitation proficiency and management, performance and competition preparation, and professional development and knowledge sharing. These findings reflect the informants' experiences and perceptions of tarannum learning practices rather than objectively demonstrating improvements in recitation skills or establishing causal relationships. This study provides insights into professional tarannum learning practices and offers a foundation for educational institutions, mosques, and Qur'anic learning centres to strengthen the systematic implementation of tarannum education.
